As we head into winter, the cold dry weather can wreak havoc on the skin. Now is a good time to re-evaluate your skin care regimen so you can keep the glow going throughout the season.
Your skin needs extra moisture and more hydration, so layering a treatment serum under a heavier night cream can be an effective solution.
For every skin type I recommend one of my favorite Dermalogica heroes, Skin Hydrating Booster. It can be used under moisturizer day and night any time of year to boost skin’s hydration with hyaluronic acid, panthenol, glycolipids, and algae extract.
For normal, dry, or aging skin, a new must have from Dermalogica is Phyto Replenish Oil. This feather light non-comedogenic treatment may be applied directly to skin and massaged in or mixed with your favorite Dermalogica moisturizer. It contains exotic Camellia, Tamanu, Orchid Flower, and Chia seed oils that restore skin’s natural lipid barrier, build collagen, and lock in critical moisture. Real magic happens when you layer Skin Hydrating Booster followed by Phyto Replenish Oil under your moisturizer day or night.
Your skin needs exfoliation, but probably less than during spring and fall. If you are using Overnight Retinol Repair (either .5% or clinical strength 1%) every night, switch to every other night, or 3 times a week and alternate with Multivitamin Power Serum. It’s velvety texture contains microencapsulated vitamins A, C, and E to help decrease the appearance of fine lines and hyperpigmentation. Personally, my skin does not love retinol (sigh!) but it LOVES the new Rapid Reveal Peel, Dermalogica’s new at-home professional strength peel which contains a unique complex of phytoactive AHA extracts, Lactic Acid and fermented plant enzymes, pumpkin fruit enzyme and Australian caviar lime extract.
Winter is the perfect season to reverse the damage caused by summer sun. If you haven’t already incorporated Bio-Lumin C into your daily regimen, now is the time to do so. This high performance serum uses advanced bio-technology and an ultra-stable Vitamin C complex that brightens, firms, and dramatically reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
And don’t forget sunscreen. Rain or shine, any time you are exposed to daylight, you are exposed to the UV rays from the sun that promote aging and increase the risk of skin cancer. Make it easy by using a daytime moisturizer with SPF every single day. Dynamic Skin Recovery SPF 50 is a favorite of many of my clients and from its name you can guess it’s from Age Smart so you know it is helping to reverse the cellular triggers of aging every time you apply it.
Drink plenty of water. Your skin LOVES water, as does every other organ in your body. Dark under eye circles and puffiness are often worse when you are dehydrated. And holiday indulgences, as fun as they are, can lead to dehydration. I always recommend drinking 2 glasses of water for every alcoholic beverage consumed. Your skin will thank you in the morning!
